Hi Teachers!

Hope we can help ease your load!

It Takes 7  is an innovative health and wellbeing program introducing children to 7 fundamental pillars for health and wellbeing. It is also an effective behaviour management tool. Our HPE lesson plans and student activities aim to address ACARA HPE curriculum objectives and enhance your students’ capacity to learn, work and play.

Attitude is the ANSWER!! Students quickly learn their alphabet or ABC for health through this saying. Attitude is emphasised as a key component for promoting mental health and ANSWER stands for Air, Nutrition, Sunshine, Water, Exercise and Rest. There is a growing body of research highlighting the way these natural elements can nurture, drive, and up-regulate the body’s inherent healing systems. This ultimately strengthens immunity, heightens resilience and generates an overall sense of wellbeing.

This diagram is a snapshot of the It Takes 7 learning cylce.

Trialled in over 60 educational sites in Australia, this holistic framework received significant government funding and was externally evaluated. To help make this real for you we have posted testimonials from the evaluation and course participants on this website. Attitude is the ANSWER!!

Teacher Reflections

In 2009, 24 schools across Queensland were engaged in a state government funded It Takes 7 (formerly The 7 Natural Physicians) health and wellbeing project. Staff were asked during the professional development training, “Which healthcare elements do you think your students are most in need of explicit teaching?” There was an almost unanimous response across schools, “NUTRITION and REST.”

Teacher Aides

In one class, 2 teacher aides commented on how the program had influenced their lives.

One teacher aide said the program had raised his awareness of how much water he should be drinking each day. He found increasing his water intake had effectively raised his energy levels and improved the way he related to his students.

A second teacher aide explained, “Working with the children on the program helped motivate me to find alternate ways to manage the stress in my life.” The ‘rest’ tenet was her highest priority. Relying on alcohol and caffeine to de-stress had become habitual. Decreasing her coffee intake and refraining from the usual glass of wine in the late afternoon were two goals she set herself. A couple of months later, the aide remarked with pride that she had successfully achieved her goals. Her afternoons were now pleasantly spent walking with her children along their local riverbank.
